Crazy Skills!

Friday, July 22nd, 2011

I came across this video on Facebook from a police officer’s posting (also a college friend).

I know autocross is about accuracy, but this is a whole new level of skills. I could not do that on my 10 speed, let alone a motorcycle. Add to the mix, a gun belt and uniform, that is insane.

Officer Williams I am sure is a fine officer, but he is an amazing rider.

991 Porsche 911 on Fire

Friday, July 8th, 2011

Oh this cant bode well for Porsche.  With the publicity storm that followed the Ferrari 458 debacle, I am sure the PR crew at Porsche is trying to douse this fire out fast.  Unfortunately this was not the case for the 991 cabrio test mule below which burned on for about 15 minutes before the fire fighters were able to put it out.

The fire has been reported to have started in the engine bay and thankfully no one was injured in this incident.  The car has been towed back to Porsche’s Weissach-based development center to determine the fire’s exact cause.

Let’s hope that this was an isolated incident and not an indication of a larger problem in the new car.

PCA Roar on the Shore 2011 Club Race Results

Tuesday, July 5th, 2011

2 of our sponsored drivers participated in this years “Roar on the Shore” with PCA Club Racing this past weekend at GingerMan Raceway.  Hosted by SE Michigan PCA, the weekend was a perfect blend of DE sessions and Porsche power.  Every year the event draws a good mix of cars and great competition and this year was no exception.

For Phil Mason, this was his 1st foray into the world of PCA club racing and his 1st session did not disappoint.  The afternoon enduro was entertaining racing and due to the heat  and high humidity of the day; extra stress was placed on the drivers and their cool suits.  Phil’s E class 968 pulled a respectable 3rd place in the Enduro Race Saturday afternoon with a best lap time of 1:49.6.

Phil Coming Out of Turn 2 at GingerMan (Car #465)

Sunday started off with a cooler morning than the day before and the Porsche’s reacted with faster times.  Phil was able to post a best lap of 1:47.946 in the morning spring session, but was not able to hold his position and placed in 5th.  The heat did come in the afternoon and the lap times for the session showed how powerful ambient temperature is on cars.  Phil fought hard and was able to run a 1:50.273 and secured his second 5th place finish for the weekend.  Not bad for a rookie in his first weekend in club racing!

Turn 2 at Gingerman

Kurt Konrath has been driving in PCA Club Racing for some time now and has had great success over the years.  His ‘87 911 has been set up extremely well for a car in G class and he has such a comfort level with the car, it is hard for competitors to beat him.  This weekend Kurt went for the clean sweep in his class.  During the enduro race Kurt was able to build a 32 second lead and posted a best lap of 1:47.390 for the race.  The next day provided us some of the best class racing I have witnessed with the PCA in a long time.  A 993 driven by Peter Dabrowski was on Kurt’s tail for the whole day.  The 1st sprint race was a tight race between the two cars for the whole 12 laps.  The end result was Kurt squeaking out the win by .5 second with a best lap time of 1:45.187.

The second race of the day was neck and neck again from the checker.  Kurt was able to get position out of Turn 2 and did not let it go for the remaining 14 laps.  He posted a best time of 1:45.987 for the sprint race and completed the sweep of the event.  The back and forth racing between Kurt and Peter was great to see and I hope that we see more competition like this in the future amongst all the classes.

So a HUGE CONGRATS goes out to Phil for his 1st successful weekend as a PCA Club racer and Kurt for his sweep this weekend.  We wish you both continued success at the next event.
