BMW Recalls 130,000 2007-’10 Vehicles for Defective Fuel Pumps

Wednesday, October 27th, 2010

Well on Oct 7th we sent out a note about the class action lawsuit BMW was facing for HPFP (high pressure fuel pump) issues on their N54 engines.  This fuel pump is in a multitude of cars: 2007-’10 335i, 2008-’10 135i, 535i and X6 xDrive35i and 2009-’10 Z4 roadster sDrive35i.

The recent press that has surrounded this issue via the lawsuit and a recent undercover report by ABC’s Nightline has made this an issue that BMW’s PR Dept. wish would go away.  The result is now, finally, a recall for the HPFP and recognition from BMW that they have a problem, something that many owners have been waiting on for a long time.

As noted by our post on the 7th, keep in mind part of the class action lawsuit is in regards to the re-tuning of the turbos as well.  Take a look at what else is involved in this recall:  Owners can contact BMW at (800) 563-4269. BMW will replace the high-pressure fuel pump in the aforementioned vehicles and may do a software update as well.

BMW is counting down the days until the 2011 models arrive with a new turbo configuration.

Genuine Porsche Original Equipment

Friday, October 22nd, 2010

Not everyone of our customers are track junkies and need high performance brake pads or rotors for their cars.  Some customers have dedicated track cars and daily drivers that need attention as well.

Over the past couple of months we have had requests by our customers to help them locate parts for their daily driver cars or they are simply looking to replace worn out parts with genuine parts.  Well… you asked for it and we responded.

As of this week, we are loading up Porsche Original Equipment Parts to our site.  We have a lot of work in front of us to load all the parts, but we are plugging along.  So if you have a Porsche that you need parts for, give us a shout, we will be happy to help.  I think you will find we have some pretty competitive pricing as well.

Thanks to our customers for helping us create a site that reflects what you want!

VW Phaeton in the US (Round 2)

Tuesday, October 19th, 2010

So the good people at VW have decided that the punishment they received when they first brought the Phaeton stateside was not enough, they are going to do it again.  Rumor mill is that the $85,000 VW will be back sometime in 2011.  Since VW now has their fingers in pretty much every car company in Europe (minus BMW) and the asking price of the Phaeton is about the same of an Audi A8, I am pretty sure we are going to see the same issue VW had marketing this car last time to prospective buyers.

Buyer: Hmm, I can get an Audi A8 (with the cool LED lights, customer service, prestige, etc) OR I can get an Audi A8 with VW badges all over it and different grill and headlights/tail lights.

Let’s hope that VW includes a “free maintenance” package on the Phaeton to lure prospective Audi owners over to the VW mark.

So here is a photo of the new Phaeton:

Here is a look at the New Audi A8:

So if you had 85k to spend on a car, what one would you buy based on looks alone?

What Were They Thinking?

Monday, October 18th, 2010

The headline says it all, “What were they thinking”?  I cannot think of a more disjointed design than what I have just witnessed from the crew at Ruf.  It is like they went into the old Porsche parts bin and decided it would be a good idea to put it all on one car.  The bumper looks to be a cross between a 997 Cup bumper and a GT3, the wheels are your standard Ruf attire, the roof is an homage to the ‘67 Targa, and the tail, well that is a throw back to the RS rear lid.

Here is a shot of the lovely back side, duckbill, rear window screen and all….

The rear window can be dropped down as well, along with the Targa top, which I think will look like a 911 convertible with a handle sticking up.

Did the chief designer at Ruf take a few months off, or are they just cashing in checks from people who will buy their products no matter how ugly it is.

Lets say you had $275k just wasting away in the bank and wanted to pick one of these up.  Be prepared to get a lot of questions as to what kind of Porsche you just bought, because after 10 minutes of looking at it, I still can’t figure it out.

Detroit’s Finest Wrecks Bumblebee

Friday, October 15th, 2010

We would like to congratulate the officer who decided to drive on set of the latest filming of Transformers 3 in Detroit.  In his moment of ignorance, he thought it would be good to go ahead and whip thru the set and hit Bumblebee.  Well done Officer of the Year!

IPC Carbon Fiber

Tuesday, October 12th, 2010

IMGT3 has been working hard with a great team of engineers to develop a carbon fiber wing that is more than a cheap wet-lay imitation wing.  We spent months developing and tweaking the design and manufacturing process incorporating the best raw materials available to us.  We made the wing stronger, lighter and completely interchangeable with the 996 rear decklid.  Normally I use the blog to just talk shop and show off some of the cool stuff I have come across online, but I wanted to take a moment to share with you some images of our IPC wing in action during a recent trip up to Road America.

One of our customers, Marty Yohanan, has used our wing for about 6 months now at various track events in the Midwest.  He recently went up to Road America during a LAPS event to stretch out the legs of the 996 GT3 and provided us some of the action shots from the days events.  Enjoy!
